Andaman and Nicobar Command today on Twitter announced the signing of MOU between Andaman and Nicobar Command (on behalf of the Ministry of Defence) and the Airports Authority of India for utilising the existing airfields at Campbell Bay and Diglipur for flights under the Regional Connectivity Scheme UDAN.
With the signing of this MOU, the airfield of INS Baaz located at Campbell Bay and INS Kohassa at Diglipur would be available for use by flights under UDAN Scheme.
The residents of Great Nicobar and North and Middle Andaman have been waiting for services of fixed-wing aircrafts under the UDAN scheme for a long time.
Flights under the UDAN scheme will enhance connectivity and ensure the development of both Campbell Bay and Diglipur. Tourists will be able to easily travel to both destinations and it will help in generating employment.
Apart from tourism, services under UDAN will help the locals travel easily during medical/personal emergencies and for other purposes.
