The Member of Parliament representing Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, has voiced significant concerns regarding the lack of adequate seating arrangements for attendants outside the operation theatre at G B Pant Hospital.
During a recent visit to the hospital, Mr. Sharma observed a distressing situation where numerous attendants were compelled to wait outside the operation theatre, resorting to sitting on the floor due to the absence of proper seating provisions. Expressing his apprehension, the MP penned a letter to the Chief Secretary of the A & N Administration, highlighting the stark contrast between G B Pant Hospital and major mainland Indian hospitals in terms of facilities for attendants.
He emphasized that the absence of a dedicated waiting room for attendants at G B Pant Hospital creates unnecessary challenges, forcing attendants to endure uncomfortable conditions, particularly during critical medical procedures.
Mr. Sharma underlined the immense stress faced by attendants accompanying patients undergoing operations. He stressed that the lack of proper seating arrangements only amplifies their difficulties during these crucial moments.
Recognising the urgency of the matter, the MP urged the Chief Secretary to swiftly address this issue by ensuring the provision of adequate seating outside the operation theatre at G B Pant Hospital. Additionally, he raised concerns about the absence of storage facilities for belongings, noting the current lack of lockers outside the operation theatre, which compels individuals to leave their possessions on the floor.
In his appeal, Mr. Sharma urged the immediate implementation of measures to provide seating arrangements for attendants, offering them a more comfortable waiting space during stressful times. Moreover, he requested the installation of lockers outside the operation theatre to facilitate the safekeeping of patients’ and attendants’ belongings before entering the operation area.
