On the occasion of International Youth Day, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament representing Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has brought a critical issue to the forefront, urging for policy changes to fortify the support provided to local youth associations across the archipelago.

In a compelling appeal, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma addressed a letter to the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, emphasising the pivotal role that the youth play in shaping the vibrant fabric of society. The Member of Parliament underscored the urgency of creating an environment that not only fosters the growth and development of the youth but also actively engages them in productive and constructive activities.

Of particular concern to Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma is the waning support offered to local youth associations, particularly those situated in remote and less accessible islands, by the Department of Sports and Regional Sports Councils. These associations, once recipients of vital sports kits, played a substantial role in instilling a sense of sportsmanship and teamwork among the island’s young population while acting as a shield against negative influences.

Regrettably, the practice of extending such crucial support has seen a decline in recent times, leaving numerous youth associations grappling with the absence of incentives that are instrumental in their holistic development.

In light of this disconcerting trend, the Member of Parliament fervently appeals to the Chief Secretary to take immediate action towards reinstating and reinforcing the provision of sports kits for local youth associations and youth clubs. Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma’s proposal goes beyond the realm of sports, extending the same system of support to youth associations engaged in artistic and creative pursuits. These enhanced incentives, he posits, will not only empower the young generation but also channel their abundant energy into productive avenues, effectively thwarting the allure of detrimental activities such as substance abuse.
