The Member of Parliament representing the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, has announced the allocation of Rs. 75 Lakhs from MPLADS Fund aimed at fostering sports development in fifteen villages across Car Nicobar Island. The sanctioned funds are specifically designated for the construction of Volleyball and Badminton courts, along with the installation of floodlights. This initiative seeks to encourage sports engagement among the tribal youths residing in Car Nicobar Island.
The utilisation of these funds, sourced from the MPLADs (Member of Parliament Local Area Development) scheme, is slated for various villages including Mus, Small Lapathi, Tapoiming, Big Lapathy, Chuckchucha, Tamaloo, Malacca, Kakana, Kimius, Teetop, Perka, Sawai, Kinyuka, Kinmai, and Arong.
Highlighting the sporting prowess of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ youths, particularly those hailing from the Nicobar District, numerous accolades have been secured both nationally and internationally in various sporting arenas.
The sanctioned infrastructure development aims not only to further promote sports within Car Nicobar Island but also to provide a conducive environment for the youth to engage in activities like Volleyball and Badminton well into the late evening hours under floodlit conditions. This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the youths’ physical well-being while diverting their focus from societal challenges such as addiction, ultimately fostering a healthier lifestyle among the youth population in Car Nicobar.
