Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, today felicitated the Karate athletes of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands who excelled at the National Karate Championship held at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi.
The Islands’ contingent delivered a stellar performance, winning a total of 10 medals — 4 Gold, 4 Silver, and 2 Bronze — and brought laurels to the Union Territory with their discipline, strength, and sporting spirit.
The medal winners include Ms. Jai Shree, Ms. V. Shanti, Ms. Ranjana, Mr. Shafiq Sheikh, Mr. Rahul Halder, Mr. Prabhakar, Mr. Kiran Kumar, and Mr. Davesh Ram.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray congratulated the young athletes for their commendable achievements and praised their perseverance and sportsmanship. He said that their success not only honours the Islands but also inspires the youth of the region to pursue excellence in sports.
The MP also extended special appreciation to Dr. M.D. Selvam, acknowledging his over 35 years of dedicated service in nurturing young talent and promoting Martial Arts in the Islands. He lauded Dr. Selvam’s significant contribution to sports development and credited his guidance for shaping the athletes’ journey.
Mr. Ray offered his blessings to the medal winners and wished them continued success in their future endeavours.
