Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the improvement of State Highway-11 from Tushnabad Junction to Tirur during a programme held at Manpur.

The project, sanctioned under the UT Budget (Capital Head), will be executed at an estimated cost of Rs. 14.90 crore.

The improvement of this stretch has been a long-pending demand of local residents and daily commuters, as the road has remained in poor condition for a considerable period. The proposed work aims to enhance road safety, ensure smoother travel and strengthen connectivity in the area.

Once completed, the upgraded road is expected to significantly benefit villagers, commuters and transport operators by improving access and connectivity to surrounding areas.

The programme was attended by the Adhyaksh of Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, along with senior officials of the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD), including the Chief Engineer and Superintending Engineer, besides other departmental engineers.

Public representatives from the concerned constituency, villagers, commuters and elderly residents of the area were also present on the occasion.

During the event, the Member of Parliament, along with the villagers and commuters present, expressed gratitude to the UT Administration for sanctioning the funds for the road improvement work on priority.
