Continuing the ongoing foundation stone laying programme across the islands, Mr.Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, on Sunday laid the foundation stones for improvement, resurfacing and special repair works of Other District Link Roads at four locations within the municipal area.
The works will be undertaken at Garacharma (Ward No. 18), Prothrapur (Ward No. 24), Machilane (Ward No. 10) and Nayagaon (Ward No. 12). The programme was attended by the respective Ward Councillors, officials of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC), prominent citizens, local residents and elderly persons of the areas.
Residents expressed happiness over the initiatives taken to improve road infrastructure in their localities, stating that the works would help ease daily commuting and improve connectivity within the municipal wards.
The projects are being carried out under the Central Road Fund (CRF), under which an amount of ₹1 crore has been sanctioned for each municipal ward. The initiative is seen as a significant step towards strengthening road infrastructure in the municipal areas of Sri Vijaya Puram.
Speaking on the occasion, the Member of Parliament expressed his gratitude to the Government of India and the UT Administration for sanctioning CRF funds for the islands. He said that the improvement of roads is a basic requirement for the smooth movement of commuters and for ensuring overall development.
The MP further noted that due to a paucity of funds in the past, the Municipal Council had been unable to undertake many such works, which caused inconvenience to residents. With the sanction of CRF funds, he said, several long-pending issues related to road infrastructure are now being addressed.
He reaffirmed his commitment to improving road connectivity across the islands and ensuring better mobility for the public.
