In a significant step towards the development of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, met with the Chief Secretary of the A&N Administration on 6th January to discuss a range of critical issues impacting the region.
The meeting focused on several key matters aimed at accelerating infrastructure and agricultural growth in the Islands. Among the main points discussed were the early conduct of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) and State Plan Board meetings, the identification of roads linking harbour jetties and ports for potential National Highway declaration, and the finalization of priority roads, bridges, and culverts for construction under the CRF (Central Road Fund).
Additionally, Mr. Ray raised concerns regarding the supply of DAP and neem-coated urea to farmers, urging the administration to ensure timely availability. He also highlighted the urgent need for survey and repairs of harbour jetties, as well as the potential for utilising vacant urban land for tourism development. Land conversion issues were also brought to the forefront, with a call for their resolution to support sustainable development.
Responding to these concerns, the Chief Secretary assured Mr. Ray that these issues are under active consideration by the A&N Administration. Efforts are being made to address the matters promptly and efficiently to further the growth of the Islands.
The discussion marks a proactive step in resolving long-standing development challenges and strengthening the region’s infrastructure and economy.
