Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, the Hon’ble Member of Parliament for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 19 to highlight several pressing issues affecting the islands and seek immediate intervention.

During the meeting, Mr. Ray apprised the Prime Minister of various long-standing matters requiring attention, including the shortage of specialist doctors at the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS), the need for renewal of the 50 MW LNG power plant project, and a proposal to merge ANIIMS with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He also raised concerns about inadequate fund allocation to the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC), the deteriorating condition of ports and jetties, and the lack of implementation of the anti-defection law in the islands, among other critical issues.

The Prime Minister is said to have patiently listened to Mr. Ray’s concerns and assured him of all possible support to address these challenges.

Notably, Mr. Ray was accompanied by Ms. Neha Mishra, an island student currently undergoing coaching for competitive exams in New Delhi.

This meeting underscores the MP’s continued efforts to prioritise the development and welfare of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
