MP Bishnu Pada Ray Meets Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Address Key Issues Affecting Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, met Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah recently to discuss several long-pending issues concerning the islands that require urgent intervention and resolution.

During the meeting, MP Bishnu Pada Ray highlighted key matters affecting the residents of the islands. Among the issues raised were the need for:

  • Conversion of land under existing regulations.
  • Revision of circle rates, stamp duty, and registration fees as per LR & LRR Regulation.
  • Handover of ANIIMS (Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences) to AIIMS or its management under the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model.
  • Posting of CGHS doctors at district and community health centers.
  • Introduction of a domicile law for local employment opportunities.
  • Increased funding to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council as recommended by the 4th UT Finance Commission.
  • Construction of the Chatham-Bambooflat Bridge.
  • Regular supply of DAP and urea fertilizers to farmers.
  • OBC survey and declaration for socio-economic categorization.
  • Implementation of the anti-defection law for municipal and zilla parishad bodies.

The discussions were described as highly productive, with the Home Minister assuring the MP of the Ministry’s prompt attention and resolution of the matters raised.

Following the meeting, MP Bishnu Pada Ray expressed his gratitude to Mr. Amit Shah for his time, attention, and commitment to addressing the concerns of the islands’ residents. He also expressed optimism that the timely resolution of these issues would bring significant relief and development to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
