Member of Parliament from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, has stepped up his demand for the establishment of a Central University in the Islands after holding a series of interactions with students and faculty members from various higher educational institutions.
Over the past few days, the MP has met students from multiple colleges to understand their views on the ongoing university issue. On February 21, he interacted with B.Ed students of Government Tagore College of Education at Sri Vijaya Puram. During the interaction, the students unanimously demanded the establishment of a Central University in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and opposed the proposed Deemed University framework. On February 23, Mr. Ray met MBBS students of the Medical College at Sri Vijaya Puram, who, according to him, unanimously expressed the need for a Central University. Faculty members and students of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT) also conveyed their united support for the demand.
Continuing his outreach on February 24, the MP interacted with 3rd and 4th year MBBS students of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS). The students reiterated their unanimous support for establishing a Central University in the Islands. Students and faculty members of Andaman College also expressed strong backing for the proposal.
Earlier, Mr. Ray had also visited Andaman Law College, where he interacted with students. His engagement has extended to students from various colleges, reflecting what he described as a broad-based academic consensus on the issue.
Mr. Ray stated that the collective voice and sentiments of the students and academic community have been communicated to the Government of India, including the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Home Minister and Education Minister, through social media platforms.
