Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, has expressed grave concern over the prolonged and acute shortage of LPG cylinders in Campbell Bay, which has been causing severe hardship to local residents for several months.

According to the MP, despite repeated representations, public protests and agitations, the issue remains unresolved. The last partial distribution of LPG cylinders in Campbell Bay reportedly took place in December 2025, with only a limited number of beneficiaries receiving supplies in January 2026. No LPG consignment has reached the island thereafter.

As Campbell Bay is entirely dependent on cargo ships for the transportation of essential commodities, the absence of regular LPG supply has significantly disrupted daily life and household activities. The situation has further aggravated public distress, particularly affecting families with no alternative cooking fuel.

It has been reported that a cargo vessel is scheduled to sail from Sri Vijaya Puram to Campbell Bay; however, no arrangements have been made to load LPG cylinders on the ship. The MP noted that similar lapses in the past have triggered public unrest, including protests and dharnas, underlining the seriousness of the issue.

Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray has urged the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, to intervene immediately and ensure that adequate LPG cylinders are transported to Campbell Bay through the scheduled cargo vessel without any further delay. He has also called for clear directions to be issued to the concerned departments and agencies to prevent the recurrence of such shortages in the future.

In addition, the Hon’ble MP has taken up the matter with the Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, seeking urgent intervention to restore regular and uninterrupted LPG supply to the island.
