In a display of dissent, Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray sat in protest outside the gates of Raj Nivas in Sri Vijaya Puram, braving heavy rainfall. The image of the MP, drenched but resolute as he sat on the road outside the Raj Nivas main gate, has quickly circulated, drawing widespread attention.

Mr. Ray’s protest comes amid a long-standing strain in his relationship with the Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The MP has been vocal in his criticism of several policies and decisions made by the Lt. Governor and has frequently expressed concerns over what he perceives as the Lt. Governor’s detachment from the needs and grievances of the local population.

This latest protest is said to have been triggered by an incident earlier in the day. According to sources, Mr. Ray sought to meet some officials at the Raj Nivas. However, he was denied entry into Raj Nivas, prompting him to sit outside in protest.

“MP Ray wanted to address the condition of a road he had visited earlier during the day, among other issues with the officials at Raj Nivas, but was not allowed inside Raj Nivas,” said Mr. Vishal Singh Rajput, who is present with the MP outside Raj Nivas. He added that despite the pouring rain, the MP refused to leave, signalling his frustration over the issue.
