Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has raised serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of the road stretch between Junglighat School and Crematorium via Ayush Hospital. In a letter addressed to the Secretary (PWD) and the Chief Engineer of the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD), he has urged immediate repair and renovation of the road, highlighting the hardships faced by daily commuters.
The MP emphasized that the damaged road poses a significant risk, particularly for patients traveling to Ayush Hospital and for transporting deceased persons. Residents have reported frequent accidents and severe difficulties in commuting due to the poor condition of the stretch. Despite its importance, the authorities have yet to take any concrete steps toward its repair, he pointed out.
Mr. Ray has called upon APWD to prioritize the restoration work immediately, even if the road is not included in the Annual Plan. He urged that any non-urgent projects be deferred to ensure this critical stretch is repaired at the earliest. Additionally, he highlighted the lack of proper drainage facilities from the market area to Crematorium, which leads to severe water-logging during the rainy season, further damaging the road infrastructure.
The MP has insisted that along with road repairs, necessary drainage provisions be implemented to prevent further deterioration. He has urged the department to take swift action before the situation worsens, ensuring safe and smooth travel for residents.
