Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands called on Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt Governor, A & N Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency on 13th of October 2021 and discussed some crucial issues related to the Islands.
During the meeting, the Member of Parliament demanded that Andaman and Nicobar Administration should fill up all vacant posts by recruiting local candidates only.
The Member of Parliament also demanded that the Flat Bay water project which has the potential to solve the problem of the water crisis, should be started. MP emphasised on proper planning to meet the need of water for Islanders as well as visiting tourists, keeping in mind the expected spike in tourism after the completion of the new Airport Terminal Building.
MP informed that the Rutland water project can fulfil the water requirements of Islanders, while the Flat Bay water project has the potential to meet the water requirement for the growing Tourism Industry.
Member of Parliament also demanded construction of a Bridge between Minnie Bay and Mitha Khadi. He informed that if the bridge is constructed, it will not only bring an economic boom for the South Andaman region but also bring more prosperity for Tourism Industry and also make life easier for Islanders.
MP also informed that the bridge between Minnie Bay and Mitha Khadi will minimise the distance between Port Blair and Jirkatang by nearly 12-15 KM and reduce the time to reach Jirktang by half.
The Member of Parliament also demanded starting International Flights from Port Blair, which will bring foreign tourists to Andamans and which in turn will give an economic boost to the Tourism Industry of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He added that International flights will also create thousands of new job opportunities for Islanders.
