Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has drawn the attention of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to the acute traffic congestion at the Harbour Area and Radhanagar Beach in Swaraj Dweep, especially during the ongoing peak tourist season.

During his visit to Swaraj Dweep on December 26 and 27, the MP personally assessed the ground situation and observed severe traffic snarls at the Harbour Area, causing significant inconvenience to tourists and local commuters. He noted that despite the presence of traffic police personnel, congestion remains persistent due to the heavy inflow of vehicles and the absence of regulated and designated parking facilities.

A similar situation was witnessed at Radhanagar Beach, one of the most frequented tourist destinations in the islands, where unplanned parking and increased tourist movement frequently result in traffic bottlenecks. Mr. Ray pointed out that the lack of adequate parking infrastructure at both locations has emerged as the primary reason behind the recurring congestion.

Emphasizing the importance of Swaraj Dweep as a key tourism hub of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the MP urged the Administration to take immediate corrective measures. He specifically called for the creation of proper and designated parking areas at both the Harbour Area and Radhanagar Beach to facilitate smooth vehicular movement, reduce congestion, and enhance convenience for tourists and residents.

Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray further requested the Administration to examine the issue on priority and issue necessary directions for early implementation, in the larger interest of public convenience and sustainable tourism development in the islands.
