Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member Parliament, A & N Islands inaugurated a manufacturing unit of Sanitary Pads under the scheme “MY PAD MY RIGHT”. The unit was inaugurated at the premises of Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Union, Teylerabad on 26 June 2022, in the presence of Mr. Manoj. H, General Manager, NABARD, Port Blair, other distinguished guests and a large number of women.
MP complimented NABARD for sanctioning the much-needed project to A & N State Cooperative Bank for the benefit of the rural women & SHG members. He further added that women in rural areas can take advantage of this project.
Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma appreciated NABARD for working towards the hygiene and health of the common women in our islands, especially those living in the rural and slum areas.
Mr. Sharma further spoke on the importance of using a sanitary pad.
Mr. Sharma also emphasised on educating women on the importance of using sanitary pad.
He also said that NGOs, Civil Society Organisations and prominent citizens should come forward and distribute free sanitary pads in rural and slum areas so that more awareness can be created among the women.
Mr. Sharma requested that more such units should be established all over the Islands. He added that if one manufacturing unit can help so many unemployed women in getting trained, then more units in other locations will prove to be a blessing for the women of these Islands.
MP also spoke on the proper disposal of the Sanitary Pads after use.
Mr. Manoj H, General Manager, NABARD lauded the efforts of A & N State Cooperative Bank in setting up the Sanitary Pad Manufacturing unit under the leadership of the Member of Parliament. He informed that the unit launched at Port Blair is one among the 12 launched countrywide by NABARD. He offered all support for strengthening the unit and for marketing the products manufactured at the unit.
Mrs. Pramila Kumari, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman also attended the function. Ms. Mariyam Bibi, Ex- Chairperson Zilla Parishad, Mrs. Zubaida, Ex-Chairperson, PBMC, Mrs. Anuradha Lal, Chairman, Green City also graced the occasion.
In the welcome address, Mr. Suresh Babu, Principal, RGCTC said that the launch of the Project has become possible because of the efforts, support and encouragement of Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma.
The programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Puspa Rani, Senior Manager, A & N State Cooperative Bank Ltd.
