The Member of Parliament for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, has raised concerns over the prolonged delay in issuing MBBS Degree Certificates to graduates of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) from the batches of 2016 and 2017. In an official letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University, Mr. Sharma has called for immediate action to alleviate the predicament faced by these graduates.

Mr. Sharma underscored the plight of ANIIMS graduates who, despite successfully passing their final MBBS examinations under Pondicherry University, are grappling with significant delays in obtaining their essential degree certificates. The Member of Parliament emphasised that the prolonged wait, spanning two to three years, has left these graduates without the crucial documentation necessary for employment opportunities and further academic pursuits.

According to Mr. Sharma’s communication with the Vice Chancellor, ANIIMS graduates approached their alma mater in Port Blair, only to be redirected to Pondicherry University for the issuance of their MBBS degree certificates. Regrettably, attempts to establish communication with Pondicherry University have yielded no response, plunging the affected graduates into a state of uncertainty and distress.

Highlighting the importance of a degree certificate in the professional realm and for pursuing postgraduate studies, Mr. Sharma expressed his deep concern over the adverse impact of the delays on the affected graduates. The MP stressed that the inability to obtain these crucial certificates has placed an unwarranted burden on the graduates, impeding their career growth and academic advancement.

In light of these challenges, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma urged the Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University to intervene promptly and expedite the issuance of MBBS degree certificates to all successful candidates from ANIIMS. This, he emphasized, would empower the graduates to make informed decisions about their future endeavours, ensuring a smoother transition into the professional and academic spheres.
