On 24th December 2024, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, the Hon’ble Member of Parliament for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, laid the foundation stones for 13 rural roads in Diglipur Tehsil. The initiative, funded by the Government of India’s Ministry of Rural Development, is part of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-II (PMGSY-II) and has been allocated a budget of ₹22 crore.
The 13 roads, spanning a total of 32 kilometres, will significantly enhance rural connectivity, facilitating easier access to essential services across villages. The roads will connect areas including Durgapur, Radhanagar, Keralapuram, Khudirampur, Milangram, Madhupur, and Ramnagar.
During the foundation-laying ceremony, which was attended by PRI members, local villagers, and officials from the APWD, Mr. Ray expressed his gratitude for the contributions of the APWD and extended thanks to key leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, for their support in the project.
“These roads are a testament to our commitment to rural development. Upon completion, they will improve road connectivity, enabling residents to access healthcare services more easily, ultimately contributing to better health management.,” said Mr. Ray.
The completion of these roads is expected to be a game-changer for the region, improving infrastructure and the overall quality of life for the communities in Diglipur Tehsil.
