Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 54 Lakhs from MPLADS for the development of a playground at Gram Panchayat Stewartgunj in Ferrargunj Tehsil.
Mr. Sharma sanctioned the amount to promote sports and cultural activities in the region so that the youth can keep themselves busy with constructive activities.
Several remote regions in the Islands lack proper sports infrastructure. Andaman and Nicobar Islands have produced several sporting stars and developing sports infrastructure in the rural areas of the Islands will attract more youth towards sports.
At present, there are several rural areas where even proper playgrounds are not available. Upkeep of the existing sports infrastructure is also not being done properly.
Demands have been raised by youth from several parts of the Island for the construction of Multipurpose hall and swimming pools.
The development of proper sports infrastructure in different regions is the need of the hour and the administration should look into developing sports infrastructure in various parts of the Islands in a cost-effective manner.
