Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands with the intent of spreading health awareness and promoting wellness among the women is organising week-long health camps with the support of Andaman Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) and private hospitals like Pillar Hospital, Agrawal Eye Hospital & Arun Hospital at various locations in South Andaman District.
The week-long Health Camps for the women started off with the inaugural camp organised at Wandoor Community Hall on 01.10.2021. The camp was inaugurated by the Member of Parliament in the presence of doctors of ANIIMS belonging to various disciplines led by Dr. Padi.
Almost 100 women from Wandoor and nearby areas attended the health camp. During the inaugural speech, the Member of Parliament expressed his gratitude to the A & N Administration and the lone Medical College of the Islands, ANIIMS for making the health camp possible for the wellness and wellbeing of the less privileged women folk. He added that the month of October is observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and which is why he is organising these week-long Health Camps at different villages of South Andaman, particularly for women.
The Member of Parliament urged the women present at the Health Camp to take maximum advantage by obtaining medical advice, check-ups, medicines, treatment etc. He added that usually it is seen that people and particularly the rural women are unaware that they might be showing symptoms of some dangerous disease. He further mentioned that such health camps help in the early diagnosis of diseases or illnesses and early diagnosis makes it easier for the disease to be treated, increases the chances of reversing the damage.
Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma informed that on 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th of October 2021, the Health Camps for women will be organised at WANDOOR, CHOULDARI, SHORE POINT, DAIRY FARM, PROTHRAPUR, BURMANALLAH, WIMBERLYGUNJ respectively and requested the women to take full advantage of these Health Camps.
The inaugural session was addressed by Dr. Padi of ANIIMS, Mrs. Shanta Laxman Singh, Ex- Chairperson, Social Welfare Board and Smt. Ratna Kannan, Ex- Chairperson, Social Welfare Board.
