Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, has urged the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands to take immediate steps for setting up a Blood Bank or Mini Blood Bank facility at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Rangat, citing the growing healthcare needs of the Middle Andaman region.
In his representation, the MP highlighted that the absence of blood storage and transfusion facilities at CHC Rangat is causing severe hardship to patients, particularly maternity cases, dialysis patients, those suffering from severe anaemia, and victims of medical emergencies and accidents. He pointed out that in critical situations, the non-availability of blood often becomes life-threatening, forcing patients and their families to arrange blood from distant centres.
Mr. Ray further noted that although a sufficient number of voluntary blood donors are available in the region, the lack of proper infrastructure for blood storage and transfusion prevents the effective utilisation of donated blood for patients in need.
Emphasising the strategic importance of CHC Rangat as a key referral health centre catering to a large population in Middle Andaman, the MP stated that the establishment of a blood bank facility has become a medical necessity under the prevailing circumstances.
He has requested the Lt. Governor to accord top priority to the matter and ensure the early establishment of a Mini Blood Bank at CHC Rangat in the larger interest of patients, Panchayati Raj Institutions, and the general public of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
