MP Urges Action on Andaman Marine Drive Project to Alleviate Traffic Woes

Port Blair, 09 December 2023

Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament representing Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has fervently highlighted the burgeoning issue of mounting traffic congestion along the Junglighat to Garacharma stretch. The escalating problem has inundated the daily lives and commutes of residents, particularly during peak hours and evenings.

In an earnest plea addressed to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament articulated the pressing concern of chronic traffic snarls plaguing areas like Dairy Farm Junction and Lambaline, severely impeding the seamless movement of vehicles.

Drawing attention to the critical bottleneck at Bhatu Basti Junction, Sharma emphasized the significant challenges faced by drivers. This junction serves as a vital link connecting Chouldari, Wandoor, and Chidiyatapu, witnessing a constant surge of vehicular traffic.

Sharma advocated for the implementation of a coastal road diversion as a viable solution to alleviate the mounting burdens faced by Andaman Nicobar Islands residents. He highlighted the proposed Andaman Marine Drive, a coastal road stretching from Junglighat to North Bay, traversing Dairy Farm, Dollygunj, and Mithakhari.

The Member of Parliament underscored the potential of the Andaman Marine Drive to serve as a much-needed panacea for the escalating traffic congestion. This diversionary route would offer an alternative passage for commuters heading to Dairy Farm, Dollygunj, Mithakhari, Chouldari, Bambooflat, and adjacent areas, thereby alleviating the strain on the heavily congested Junglighat to Garacharma route.

Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma earnestly implored the Hon’ble Lt. Governor to expedite immediate action toward the commencement and expeditious completion of the proposed coastal road project, emphasising its paramount importance in resolving the prevailing traffic congestion.

He reiterated that besides ameliorating the traffic situation in Port Blair, this initiative would substantially enhance the overall quality of life for the residents of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
