Sri Vijaya Puram, 13 February 2025

The Hon’ble Member of Parliament for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, has called for the introduction of a direct flight between Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair) and Madurai to enhance connectivity and ease travel for residents. The MP recently met with the Hon’ble Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Mr. Ram Mohan Naidu, to put forward the request.

During the meeting, Mr. Ray emphasized that Madurai serves as a vital transit point for people from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and neighboring states such as Karnataka. At present, travelers are forced to rely on connecting flights via Chennai, which results in longer travel times, higher costs, and significant inconvenience. A direct flight, he noted, would alleviate these difficulties and provide a seamless travel experience for residents and visitors alike.

The MP further highlighted Madurai’s importance as a cultural and religious hub, attracting thousands of pilgrims and tourists every year. He pointed out that a direct air route between Sri Vijaya Puram and Madurai would not only benefit the local population but also boost tourism and economic growth in both regions.

The Union Minister of Civil Aviation assured the MP that the request would be examined and given due consideration. Expressing optimism, Mr. Ray said he is hopeful that the ministry will take swift action to introduce this much-needed route, bringing significant relief and convenience to the people of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
