Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, MP, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has called for the urgent deployment of specialist doctors to the District Hospital in Mayabunder to address critical healthcare gaps.
In a formal appeal addressed to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma highlighted the pressing need for at least one General Surgeon, an Anaesthetist, and an Orthopaedic Surgeon to be stationed at the District Hospital in Mayabunder.
The Mayabunder District Hospital, which has been designated as the primary medical facility for the North and Middle Andaman region, is grappling with a longstanding challenge – a shortage of specialised medical practitioners. Despite its pivotal role, the hospital has been operating under severe constraints, which have raised concerns among residents and healthcare professionals alike.
Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has been inundated with appeals from Islanders who are deeply worried about the dearth of specialist doctors in the region. Recognising the urgency of the situation, he stressed the necessity for an immediate response in the form of deploying the required specialists to Mayabunder.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the Member of Parliament emphasised that the District Hospital in Mayabunder serves as a vital referral centre for numerous areas in North and Middle Andaman.
In his appeal to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma requested swift action to expedite the posting of the aforementioned specialists to the District Hospital in Mayabunder. This move, he stressed, is paramount to ensuring that the hospital can continue to serve the healthcare needs of North and Middle Andaman efficiently and effectively.
