In a fervent plea to the Hon’ble Minister of Road, Transport and Highways, Government of India, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament representing the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has urged for the immediate release of a minimum of Rs. 100 crores from the Central Road Fund. The fund, designated for road construction and maintenance, has been sought to address the dire road infrastructure situation in the archipelago.
In a formal letter addressed to the Hon’ble Minister of Road, Transport and Highways, Mr. Sharma highlighted the deteriorating condition of village and Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) roads across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The state of these roads, he noted, has reached a critical juncture, necessitating urgent repair and maintenance efforts.
The parliamentarian emphasised the pressing need for financial support, underlining that the current shortage of funds has hindered essential road construction and repair initiatives in various locations across the islands.
Mr. Sharma highlighted the urgency of the matter, urging the immediate release of a substantial amount from the Central Road Fund to initiate crucial road construction and repair projects.
He urged the Hon’ble Minister to consider his plea and allocate a minimum of Rs. 100 crores from the Central Road Fund for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The Member of Parliament’s impassioned appeal seeks to address a pressing concern that has a direct impact on the daily lives of the residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. As they await a response from the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, the region remains hopeful for swift action to alleviate the road repair crisis and improve the overall infrastructure in the archipelago.
