Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the Member of Parliament representing Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has called upon the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to prioritize the urgent replacement of the deteriorating TV Kulam Bridge in Swadesh Nagar.
The TV Kulam Bridge, a vital transportation link in the region, was recently closed for all regular traffic and pedestrian use due to extensive corrosion and safety concerns flagged by experts from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati.
In a formal letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, Mr. Sharma acknowledged the paramount importance of ensuring public safety. However, he underscored the significant inconvenience that the bridge’s closure has caused to local residents.
The bridge, often considered a lifeline for the region, has been instrumental in providing a valuable shortcut for daily commuters. It not only saved time but also ensured safe travel for the residents of Swadesh Nagar and surrounding areas. Its closure has now forced locals to endure lengthy detours spanning approximately 6 to 8 kilometers daily, leading to substantial disruptions in their daily lives.
In his communication with the Chief Secretary, Mr. Sharma passionately urged the administration to expedite the replacement process by installing a new Bailey Bridge. This crucial infrastructure project is expected not only to alleviate the challenges faced by the local community but also to enhance overall well-being and convenience for the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
