A murder has shocked the community of Bachra Pahad in Chouldari. At approximately 6:55 PM on 14th July 2024, Police Station Ograbraj received a distressing phone call reporting the murder of Narayan Ch. Mondal, allegedly at the hands of his son, Pawan Ch. Mondal.
Acting swiftly, a police team led by SI Devanand Pathak and SHO PS Ograbraj, along with SIs K.V. Abdul Salam and Agnes Barthloma, HCs Vijay Kumar and Ashok Kr. Roy, and PCs Jayanto Biswas, Martin, and Abdul Rehman, rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, the police encountered the complainant, Mr. Manas Chakraborthy, near the crime scene. Manas identified the deceased inside the house as his father-in-law, Narayan Ch. Mondal. According to Manas, Narayan regularly visited his son Pawan, who lived alone at Bachra Pahad, to bring him food. On the morning of July 14, Narayan left with food between 10:00 and 10:30 AM but did not return home by 4:00 PM, prompting concern. Manas searched for his father-in-law and, accompanied by a friend, arrived at Pawan’s house around 6:30 PM. Finding the door closed and no response from Pawan, Manas pushed the door to discover Narayan lying inside, blood oozing from his face, with a blood-stained stick nearby.
A case was promptly registered at PS Ograbraj under FIR No. 43/24 dated July 14, 2024, U/s 103(1) BNS 2023. The investigation intensified the following day with the involvement of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team and the Executive Magistrate. A thorough examination and inquest were conducted at the scene, and key evidence was meticulously collected.
During the investigation, Pawan Ch. Mondal was interrogated and confessed to the crime. He was subsequently arrested, showcasing the swift and effective action of the PS Ograbraj police team. This highlights their dedication to duty and professional competence.
Further investigation is ongoing to uncover the full details of the incident. This meticulous operation exemplifies the commitment of the South Andaman Police to addressing serious crimes. The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Vishesh Dhatterwal, SDPO Bambooflat (In-charge), and overall supervision of Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
