In a show of solidarity and determination, the Nagarpalika Shramik Sangh (affiliated with CITU) organized a mass demonstration in front of the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) Head Office at Mohanpura, Port Blair, on the afternoon of March 22, 2024. The demonstration aimed to press for two primary demands: the regularization of services for daily rated mazdoors and 1/30th Pay + DA for all left out PBMC workers.

The event saw a significant turnout, with a large number of workers from the Port Blair Municipal Council actively participating in the programme. Among those present were notable figures including R. Surendran Pillai, President of the CITU State Committee, SP Kalairajan, General Secretary of Nagarpalika Shramik Sangh, P. Sathyapal, Secretary of CITU State Committee, along with Anand Rajan, Treasurer, and M. Yugander, Secretary, all addressing the gathered crowd.

The grievances voiced during the demonstration centered on two key demands. Firstly, the workers demanded the regularization of services for daily rated mazdoors, stressing the importance of stable employment conditions for these workers. Secondly, they urged for fair compensation, specifically requesting a grant equivalent to 1/30th of pay plus Dearness Allowance (DA) for all remaining workers of the PBMC.

Sreenu Babu and Venkat Rao, leaders from ASNVMS, were also present, showing solidarity with the cause.

The demonstration concluded with a unified call for action, urging the authorities to address the demands promptly and ensure the welfare and rights of all municipal workers are upheld.
