The youth of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have once again demonstrated their extraordinary talent and resilience in the face of limited resources. Their latest achievement, a short film titled *Nageshwar and the Boon of Aranyani Devi*, premiered on May 18, 2024, showcasing remarkable cinematography, sound, visual effects (VFX), storyline, and acting.
Shot with minimal equipment—just three actors and a single camera—and edited entirely on one computer, the film is a testament to the ingenuity and creativity of its young creators.Â
The story follows Nageshwar, a science enthusiast from Garacharma, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, who dreams of flying high in the sky to gain a bird’s-eye view of the length and breadth of the archipelago. The narrative centres on his struggles to invent a hoverboard to fulfill this dream.
The performances of Nageshwar Singh, Rohini Kumari, and Lalitha are commendable, bringing depth and emotion to their roles. Suresh Subramaniam, who handled the story, direction, and VFX, has crafted an excellent and cohesive piece, while the film’s production was overseen by Vijayata.
‘Nageshwar and the Boon of Aranyani Devi’ was released on Suresh Subramaniam’s YouTube channel on May 18, 2024, and has already begun to garner attention for its creative storytelling and impressive technical achievements despite the constraints faced by its creators. This film not only highlights the unique capabilities of the island’s youth but also serves as an inspiring example of what can be achieved with passion and determination.
