National Adoption Day Celebrated by DCPU N & M Andaman District

The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) of North and Middle Andaman commemorated ‘National Adoption Day’ with fervour and purpose on November 18, 2023, under the guidance of Mr. Ankit Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of N&M Andaman. The event was dedicated to raising awareness about the essentiality of adoption, aiming to provide children in need with loving homes, nurturing parents, quality education, and a supportive social environment, fundamental for their growth and development.

The commemoration commenced at the Assistant Commissioner’s Office Conference Hall in Diglipur with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Mr. Subhajit Basu, Hon’ble Additional District and Sessions Judge of Mayabunder, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Accompanying him was Mr. Tarun Kumar Mondal, Hon’ble Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Civil Judge of Mayabunder, N&M Andaman, who presided as the guest of honor. The event also welcomed esteemed individuals like Mr. Arnab Roy Choudary, Hon’ble Judicial Magistrate First Class of Mayabunder, N&M Andaman, Dr. H.M. Siddaraju, Chief Medical Officer of CHC Diglipur, and Ms. Indra Devi, Child Development Project Officer of ICDS Project (Rural), Diglipur, as special guests.

Addressing the gathering, the chief guest emphasised the significance of observing ‘National Adoption Day,’ underscoring the importance of offering a brighter future to children through adoption. Similarly, the guest of honour shed light on adoption procedures and various welfare schemes, including initiatives for Child Marriage prevention, Right to Education, and promoting children’s health and hygiene.

The program was adorned with diverse cultural activities and competitions such as Rangoli, a Quiz Competition, and a Skit, performed by dedicated Anganwadi Workers and ASHA Workers. Over 200 individuals actively participated in these engaging events, showcasing their support for the cause.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by the Legal-cum-Probation Officer of DCPU, N&M Andaman, expressing gratitude to all participants and guests for their valuable contributions and commitment to the welfare of children.

The celebration of ‘National Adoption Day’ in the N&M Andaman district not only emphasized the importance of adoption but also served as a platform to spread awareness and foster a community dedicated to providing a nurturing environment for children in need.
