The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) under the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, N&M Andaman, hosted a special event to mark National Adoption Day at the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium, Rangat. The programme aimed to raise awareness about the importance of adoption and the critical need for loving homes for children in need.
The event, held under the guidance of Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, N&M Andaman, saw enthusiastic participation from ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and the general public. Mr. Vikash Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Rangat, was the chief guest, while Mr. R. Bharka, Range Forest Officer, Middle Andaman, served as the guest of honour. Dr. Rajyalaxmi, Medical Officer (Homeo) at CHC Rangat, was also present as a special guest. Other notable dignitaries included Mr. Madhab Halder, SHO of Police Station Rangat, and Ms. Monalisa Biswas, Mukhya Sevika of ICDS Rangat, Middle Andaman.
The primary objective of the event was to emphasise the crucial role adoption plays in providing children with the essentials for growth—loving parents, quality education, home care, and a supportive social environment. In his address, the chief guest highlighted the importance of National Adoption Day, urging the community to raise awareness and encourage families to consider adoption as a means to give children a brighter future.
The guest of honour spoke on building inclusive educational environments for adoptive and foster children, while other speakers discussed adoption regulations, child welfare schemes, the POCSO Act, child marriage, the Right to Education, and child health and hygiene.
The programme also featured a skit by Anganwadi workers and a dance performance by school students, which aimed to raise legal awareness surrounding adoption. Over 150 participants attended, making the event a resounding success.
Through this initiative, the DCPU reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of children and the adoption process, highlighting the importance of providing every child with the care and support they deserve.
