National Book Week 2025 commenced on November 14 at the State Library, with a formal inauguration by Director of Education Mr. Vikram Singh, who graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Singh stressed the need to cultivate reading habits among children and urged parents to play an active role in building a reading-friendly environment at home. He highlighted that children often emulate their elders, emphasizing the importance of parents visiting libraries with their wards, borrowing books regularly, and reducing children’s screen time by limiting digital gadget use.

The Director also announced that library membership is free for all and introduced a special initiative titled ‘Read a Book, Get a Gift Free’. As part of this programme, senior citizens visiting the library will be offered complimentary tea, while young readers will receive chocolates as tokens of encouragement.

A major attraction of National Book Week is the book exhibition, featuring an extensive collection of titles for readers across age groups. The exhibition showcases children’s literature, biographies, sports books, novels, competitive exam guides, publications on the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and books in multiple languages.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 9 AM to 8 PM, between November 15 and 20. School and college students, along with the general public, are invited to participate in the week-long celebration of books, learning, and the joy of reading, the State Library informed in a press release.
