In a bid to combat tuberculosis (TB) and promote awareness, two significant events were recently organised at Car Nicobar and Katchal as part of the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP). The events aimed to educate the public and healthcare workers on TB prevention, early detection, and treatment.

A TB Screening Health Camp was held at J.N.V School, Arong, Car Nicobar, led by Dr. Anwar Moosa, the District TB Officer, DTC Nicobar District, and CMO of BJR Hospital. Approximately 72 students from classes VIII, IX, and X underwent screening for TB. Following the screening, Dr. Moosa conducted an informative session, highlighting the importance of early detection, treatment adherence, and combating the stigma surrounding TB.

In Katchal, a training-cum-awareness programme was organised at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) under the guidance of Dr. Rubeena Yousuf, Medical Officer. The session focused on educating health workers about the causes, symptoms, and types of TB, as well as contact tracing, diagnostic tests, and potential drug side effects. The training, which included CHOs, ANMs, Male Health Workers, and PHN staff at PHC Katchal, encouraged participants to identify TB symptoms early and provide support to affected individuals.

These initiatives reflect the ongoing commitment of the National TB Elimination Programme in fostering healthier communities and supporting the national objective of eradicating tuberculosis.
