Negotiation of Ex-PRIs of Campbell Bay with Administration Bears Fruit

Campbell Bay, 04 Dec 2020

The Ex-PRIs of Campbell Bay had together written a letter to the Administration demanding immediate fulfilment of several public demands back in November 2020 and had given the Administration one week to give favourable reply and results.

All the demands of the Ex-PRIs were in public interest and they had also called for a massive protest and bandh in Campbell Bay, but it was later called off after the Administration negotiated with them and assured to fulfil the demands listed in their letter.

Residents of Campbell Bay received the gift of 4G Mobile Services from BSNL yesterday and along with the staffs and authorities of BSNL all Ex-PRIs should be lauded for their efforts. Even the Local administration and the District Administration should be lauded for their efforts to bring the convenience of high speed internet on mobile phones through a functional 4G mobile service in Campbell Bay.

Mr. Gagan Deep Singh, Ex-Up Adyaksha, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, Mr. Sandeep Kalyan Chakravarthy, Ex-Zilla Parishad Member, Laxmi Nagar Constituency, Mr. G. Venkat Rao, Ex-Up Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti Campbell Bay, Mr. D Jayaraman, Ex-Panchayat Samiti Member, Panchayat Samiti Campbell Bay, Mr. E.S Rajesh, Ex-Pradhan, Laxmi Nagar Gram Panchayat, Mr. K Raja, Ex-Pradhan, Campbell Bay Gram Panchayat, Mrs. Rosalia Kullu, Ex-Pradhan, Govind Nagar Gram Panchayat, Mrs. Manjula Lakra, Ex-Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti Campbell Bay were the signatories in the letter of demands submitted to the Chief Secretary.

All the Ex-PRIs later negotiated with the Administration which brought several reliefs for the general public. During the negotiations BSNL had accepted to start 4G services in the main BTS of Campbell Bay by the end of December 2020, but instead the services were started yesterday about a month earlier than their deadline.

The shipping services for Campbell Bay were also being restricted earlier, because of which the residents of Campbell Bay were facing a lot of difficulties as they could not travel freely between Port Blair and Great Nicobar. The patients and the general public of Campbell Bay are now very happy that shipping schedule for the entire month has been published in advance and people can plan their journey accordingly.

The demands listed by the Ex-PRIs are being fulfilled by the Administration and the general public is enjoying a lot more convenience now. The Ex-PRIs of Campbell Bay should also be lauded for getting united across party lines to negotiate the demands of the general public with the Administration.

The Local and District Administration should also be lauded for understanding the problems of the general public and taking favourable action after being approached by the public leaders.

The general public should also put forward their demands before the public leaders so that they can take it up with appropriate authorities for redressal. The step forward for the Ex-PRIs now should be to demand for converting all the BTS of BSNL in Campbell Bay to 4G. They should also together write to private telecom companies to start their 4G mobile services in Campbell Bay, because BSNL is still operating its 4G services on 3G spectrum, which limits the bandwidth to 100 Mbps, which will not be sufficient for high speed data services. The private telecom companies have 4G spectrum and their services will bring much more convenience for the residents of Great Nicobar.

The Ex-PRIs should also demand reopening of tourism in Great Nicobar Island, which is the only Island in the Nicobar District, which tourists can visit.
