A new ANIIDCO Wine Outlet today opened in Chouldari area of South Andaman. The villagers had earlier on two occasions raised strong objections against the opening of Wine Shop at Chouldari and letters were also sent to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor opposing the move.

Mohan Halder, State Secretary, Bharathiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands & Ex-Pradhan, GP Chouldari today took to Twitter and informed, Administration has opened the Wine Shop at Chouldari by neglecting the voices of women and intellectuals. He added that he will collect and compare cases of liver problems, domestic violence cases, drink & drive cases, road accident cases, POCSO Cases and other related cases between today and 2023 and will submit a report to the Prime Minister.

Nicobar Times spoke to Mr. Halder over the phone and he informed that a large number of villagers had objected to the opening of the wine shops and written objections were also sent two times in the past.

Mr. Halder also informed that the people of Chouldari have been objecting to the opening of Bar and Wine Shop in their region for the last 20 years. He further added that resolutions have also been passed from time to time in Gram Sabha against the opening of Wine Shop and Bar.

Mr. Halder also raised concerns that women will be the worst suffers now, as many husbands will become habitual drunkards because of the easy availability of liquor.

Mr. Halder also explained that some people justify the opening of Wine Shop by saying that it will curb black marketing, he stressed that the police was already there to stop black marketing and it was not essential to bring alcohol to the doorsteps of the residents of Chouldari.

He also raised concerns that the Veer Savarkar Park will now become a den for drunkards and the residents living nearby would face problems.
