The general public and consumers have been notified of a significant update regarding electricity tariffs for Bed & Breakfast establishments in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. As per a recent Tariff Order issued by the Hon’ble Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) on June 13, 2024, a new category titled ‘Domestic (Bed & Breakfast)’ has been introduced. This category applies specifically to establishments registered under the Bed & Breakfast scheme.
In the Tariff Order for FY 2024-25, JERC has stipulated that any Bed & Breakfast establishment operating under a standard domestic connection—rather than the newly assigned Domestic (Bed & Breakfast) tariff—will be deemed unauthorised under Section 126 of the Electricity Act, 2003. The JERC emphasized that such establishments are required to operate under the higher Bed & Breakfast tariff, and any deviation will lead to penalties.
To ensure compliance, all Bed & Breakfast establishments have been directed to update their category accordingly. Owners are required to submit a copy of their Bed & Breakfast registration certificate, issued by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, to their respective site offices within 15 days.
Failure to comply with these directives may result in legal action as per the **JERC Supply Code and Regulations**. Consumers are urged to act promptly to avoid penalties.
