Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, has successfully taken up the long-standing demand of villagers under Nilambur Gram Panchayat for better healthcare facilities at Jarawa Creek, Baratang. The MP approached the Health Department for the construction of a new Health & Wellness Centre at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.20 crore, in accordance with IPHS norms.
Earlier, a proposal of Rs. 71.12 lakh had been submitted for the repair or reconstruction of the existing Sub-Centre at Jarawa Creek. However, Mr. Ray highlighted that the current centre, located on a hillock, poses significant difficulties for patients, particularly senior citizens, in accessing healthcare services. Repairing the old facility, he argued, would not adequately address the villagers’ needs.
Taking into account the MP’s suggestion and the genuine hardships faced by the local population, the Health Department has included the proposal for a new Health & Wellness Centre in the Action Plan for 2025–2026. The construction work will be undertaken by the APWD, subject to fund availability.
On behalf of the residents of Nilambur Gram Panchayat, Mr. Ray expressed gratitude to the A&N Administration for addressing this long-pending grievance and facilitating improved healthcare access for the people of Jarawa Creek.
