The Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair is gearing up for a significant milestone as operations within its state-of-the-art New Integrated Terminal Building are poised to commence from August 21, 2023.

The inauguration of this modern terminal took place on July 18, 2023, virtually by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, marking a momentous event for the island’s aviation infrastructure.

With the impending operational launch, all relevant stakeholders have been duly notified to finalise their preparations to ensure a seamless transition to the New Terminal Building by August 21.

Attracting widespread attention both domestically and internationally, the ultra-modern shell-shaped terminal design has become a talking point for its unique architectural concept and advanced facilities. The integration of cutting-edge features within the building has undoubtedly contributed to its global recognition.

However, not long after the inauguration, the new terminal encountered a minor controversy. Several media outlets shared videos depicting a fallen false ceiling, sparking concerns. A clarification was subsequently provided, explaining that the incident was linked to ongoing final works on the CCTV system and the temporary dislocation of the false ceiling due to heavy winds.

Beyond these initial hiccups, the New Terminal Building will soon enable the operation of international flights from Port Blair. This development holds the potential to usher in a new era of tourism for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with an influx of high-value foreign tourists expected to grace its shores.

The people of the islands are harbouring high expectations that the New Terminal Building will become a catalyst for a tourism boom, bolstering the local economy and providing visitors with enhanced amenities and services.

As August 21 approaches, all eyes are on the Veer Savarkar International Airport as it stands on the brink of embracing a transformative chapter in the history of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The commencement of operations within the New Integrated Terminal Building is poised to redefine the region’s air travel experience, promising convenience, modernity, and increased connectivity for travellers to and from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
