In a significant development, Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of North & Middle Andaman, chaired a pivotal meeting at the Conference Hall of the District Office, Mayabunder. The gathering aimed at electing new leadership for the third-year term of the North & Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad.

During the meeting, Ms. Elizabeth, representing the Mayabunder Constituency, and Mr. Tapas Roy, hailing from the Rangat Constituency, emerged victorious in the election for the posts of Adhyaksha and Up-Adhyaksh respectively. Their election marks a crucial transition in the leadership landscape of the region.

Following the democratic process, the Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Dilkhush Meena, administered the Oath of Office to the newly elected Adhyaksha and Up-Adhyaksh. The commencement of their term, effective May 13, 2024, signifies a new chapter in the governance of North & Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad.

Notably, both Ms. Elizabeth and Mr. Tapas Roy contested the election as Independent Candidates after resigning from their respective political affiliations much earlier.

This electoral outcome also highlights a trend in recent contests, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) facing its third consecutive defeat. Earlier defeats include losses in the third-year term PBMC Chairperson Election and the Adhyaksha and Up-Adhyaksh Elections of Zilla Parishad South Andaman.
