New Year SHG Mela at Marina Park Records Total Sales of Rs. 4 Lakh

The New Year Self Help Group (SHG) Mela, organized by the Andaman & Nicobar Islands National Rural Livelihood Mission (ANIRLM) under the aegis of the Department of Rural Development, concluded successfully at Marina Park after being held from December 27, 2025 to January 4, 2026.

The Mela witnessed good response from the general public, resulting in encouraging sales and widespread appreciation for products made by Self Help Groups. A total of 154 SHG members participated in the event, showcasing a wide variety of locally produced items.

Products on display included handicrafts, coconut oil, soaps, pickles, traditional sweets, snacks, ice creams, smoothies, fast food items, and South Indian cuisines. SHG members from Sri Vijaya Puram, as well as from Rangat, Mayabunder, Diglipur, and Tamil Nadu, actively participated, highlighting the diversity and quality of SHG enterprises.

The event recorded total sales of approximately Rs. 4 lakh, underscoring the strong market potential of SHG-produced goods and the growing consumer preference for locally made products.

Participating SHG members expressed their gratitude to the Department of Rural Development and the Andaman & Nicobar Administration for their continued support and encouragement, which they said has played a vital role in strengthening livelihoods and promoting self-reliance among rural women.
