NIC, C-DAC Organise Safer Internet Day Awareness Sessions Across A&N Islands

The National Informatics Centre (NIC), Sri Vijaya Puram, in collaboration with C-DAC under the Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) Project, organised a series of awareness sessions across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands to mark Safer Internet Day 2026.

The programmes were conducted under the global theme, “Smart Tech, Safe Choices – Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI.” The initiative aimed to sensitise citizens about safe online practices, cyber hygiene, protection against digital threats and the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence.

Awareness sessions were held at Tagore Government College of Education (TGCE), Mahatma Gandhi Government College (MGGC), Mayabunder, and at the DC Office Conference Hall, Car Nicobar.

At TGCE, the session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of TGCE and Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM), IT Cadre officials and the NIC team. Ms. Manju Lata Rao, Principal, TGCE, and Mr. Gautam Gupta, State Informatics Officer (SIO), NIC Andaman & Nicobar UT Centre, attended as Guests of Honour.

During the session, the SIO delivered a detailed presentation on safer internet access, cybersecurity best practices, prevention of online fraud, responsible internet usage and effective digital safety measures.

In North and Middle Andaman District, officials of the NIC N&M Andaman District Unit organised an awareness programme at Mahatma Gandhi Government College, Mayabunder. Mr. Krishna Chaitanya, Additional District Magistrate, North and Middle Andaman District, attended the programme as Chief Guest.

Meanwhile, the workshop held at the DC Office Conference Hall in Car Nicobar witnessed active participation from students, teachers, Heads of Departments, shopkeepers and members of the general public. Mr. John Levi, Deputy Vice Chief Tribal Council, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

Through these sessions, NIC and C-DAC reinforced the importance of building a digitally aware and cyber-secure society, encouraging citizens to make informed and responsible choices while navigating the digital world.
