Self Help Groups formed by Women under the DAY-NRLM scheme now have a permanent platform to market their products and produce at Car Nicobar. The District Administration has arranged for Women SHGs to sell their Nicobari artefacts/handmade bamboo items, naturally produced coconut oil, cane, basket, pillow cover, Nicobari mats, and other agriculture products directly to customers at Edward Kutchet Park, Car Nicobar.
District Administration’s initiative allows two or three Women Self Help Groups to set up stalls, sell their products and produce directly to the customers daily. The initiative will allow all Women SHGs to sell their produce rotationally from Monday to Friday.
The SHGs reportedly generate more than Rs. 9000/- daily per SHG by selling products at their stall in Edward Kutchet Park.
Mr. Hari Kallikkat, Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar, initiated the initiative. This is a first-of-a-kind initiative where a platform has been made available for the women SHGs to sell their products and produce daily.
