Nicobar District Celebrates 79th Independence Day with Patriotic Fervour

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic zeal and community spirit across the Nicobar District on August 15. The main function was held at BJR Stadium, Car Nicobar, where Deputy Commissioner Amit Kale, IAS, unfurled the National Flag. Superintendent of Police Rahul Nair, IPS, was present as the guest of honour.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner lauded the resilience and unity of the Nicobarese people. “Independence Day is a reminder of the responsibility we all share to build a stronger, inclusive, and progressive India. In the Nicobar District, our efforts continue to focus on sustainable development, improved connectivity, and the welfare of tribal communities,” he said.

The celebrations showcased the cultural vibrancy of the islands, with traditional Nicobarese dances, patriotic songs, and spirited performances by school students. Commendation certificates were also presented to government officials, frontline workers, and students in recognition of their outstanding service and achievements.

The event witnessed the participation of senior administrative and police officials, personnel from the Air Force, tribal leaders, schoolchildren, and members of the general public.
