Nicobar District Administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Amit Kale, IAS, has rolled out an ambitious cleanliness campaign titled ‘Clean Nicobar, Green Nicobar’. Launched under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), the campaign began on January 15 and will run until January 25, 2025.

This initiative aims to bring together stakeholders across the district to enhance sanitation and promote environmental sustainability. The campaign is a collaborative effort involving government departments, Tribal Councils, Gram Sabhas, and private vendors, all working towards making Nicobar cleaner and greener.

Government departments have taken an active role in the drive, organising cleanliness activities within their respective jurisdictions. Public spaces, including marketplaces, have been a focal point, with private vendors joining forces with the administration to ensure these areas remain garbage-free.

Deputy Commissioner Amit Kale highlighted the broader vision of the initiative, stating, “Cleanliness is not just about maintaining hygiene but also about fostering a sense of pride and responsibility in our communities. With the involvement of all stakeholders, we are creating a sustainable model of community-driven cleanliness.”

The campaign has successfully turned into a district-wide movement, showcasing the collective commitment of the people of Nicobar to safeguard their unique environment.

The ‘Clean Nicobar, Green Nicobar’ initiative aligns with the goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission and aims to leave a lasting impact on the health, well-being, and natural beauty of the Nicobar Islands.
