Nicobar District Police Apprehends Nine Myanmarese Nationals

On January 19, 2025, at 10:50 AM, the Nicobar District Police responded swiftly to credible information provided by local residents of Kamorta, who reported a sighting of a Myanmarese  (Burmese) dinghy between Dering and Olinpow. Acting on the tip-off, a team led by Sub-Inspector Calvin, the Station House Officer (SHO) of PS Nancowry, quickly mobilised along with other police personnel to Dering village.

Upon reaching the area, the police conducted a thorough search operation and located the dinghy at Inkato Nalah. During the search, six Myanmarese nationals were apprehended. Further investigation revealed that their group consisted of nine individuals. In a prompt follow-up operation in the surrounding waters, three more Myanmarese nationals were captured from the seashore at Inkato.

All nine detainees are now in custody at PS Nancowry, where they are being held under proper supervision, and interrogations are ongoing. They will soon be handed over to the PS C&EO for the initiation of appropriate legal proceedings.

The operation was led by Sub-Inspector Calvin under the command of Mr. Solomon Samuel, DANIPS, SDPO Car Nicobar. The entire effort was supervised by Mr. Sunny Gupta, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District.

The Nicobar District Police are urging local fishermen and the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or sightings of foreign nationals to the nearest police station or by calling emergency numbers: 100, 112, or 03193-265999. The identity of informers will be kept confidential, and they will be rewarded for their cooperation.
