Sri Vijaya Puram, 16 January 2025

Andaman and Nicobar Police is observing Police Raising Week from January 16, 2025, to January 22, 2025. The history of the A&N Police dates back to 1875, when an organised police force was first established in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. In 1924, the Civil Police Force was formed as a separate branch under the control of a Commandant to deal with crime and criminals.

After India gained independence, on January 16, 1953, Mr. Naushirwan Feroz Sauntook, the first Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, took over as Superintendent of Police from Mr. M. Macfarland. This day is celebrated annually as the Raising Day of the Andaman & Nicobar Police.

On this occasion, the Nicobar District Police proudly commemorated Police Raising Day on January 16, 2025, marking the beginning of Police Raising Week. The week-long celebration aims to honour the rich legacy of the police force and strengthen ties with the community through a series of outreach and service-oriented activities.

To inaugurate the week’s events, a cleanliness drive was organized throughout Nicobar District. Aligned with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the initiative highlighted the role of citizens in maintaining a clean and healthy environment. Police officers and personnel from all five police stations in the district actively participated in cleaning public spaces, marketplaces, beaches, and other open areas.

– Car Nicobar: Police personnel cleaned Malacca Beach and its surrounding areas, enhancing its natural beauty and raising awareness about maintaining public hygiene.

– Campbell Bay: Teams focused on cleaning the picturesque Laxman Sea Beach, preserving its charm and environmental value.

– Nancowrie: In Kamorta village, police collaborated with local residents to clean the marketplace and jetty area, earning widespread appreciation from the community.

– Katchal: Staff from the Police Station, Fire Station, and Police Radio worked alongside the public to clean Kapanga Sea Beach, fostering a spirit of unity and shared responsibility.

– Teressa: Police officers actively participated in cleaning public spaces in their jurisdiction, contributing significantly to the district-wide effort.

The week-long celebrations not only commemorate the Andaman & Nicobar Police’s history but also reinforce bonds with the community through meaningful activities that promote a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment.
