Nicobar District Police held a special felicitation ceremony on November 25, 2024, at the Superintendent of Police’s office to recognize the exceptional achievements of local cyclists from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Unit of Car Nicobar. The athletes had represented the Andaman and Nicobar Islands at the 76th Senior and 53rd Junior National Track Cycling Championships, held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, from November 15 to 19, 2024.
Mr. Sunny Gupta, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District, presented bouquets and shawls to the athletes and their coach as a token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication.
Among the standout performers, I S Bridnay earned a Gold medal in the Youth Individual Time Trial (Girls) category, while Namita Violet, Queendoline, and Britney won Silver medals in the Sub-Junior Team Sprint (Girls) category. In the Youth Individual Time Trial (Boys) category, Messi Kastons secured a Silver medal, showcasing remarkable talent. The Sub-Junior Team Sprint (Boys) team, including Michael, Ronnie, Lionel Backer, Saw Zachkhria, Derickson, and Agileswaran, earned a fourth-place finish, further highlighting their exceptional efforts.
The team was led by Mr. Vishwajeet Balkrishna Sutra, Assistant Cycling Coach and Incharge, SAI, Car Nicobar.
During the ceremony, Mr. Gupta commended the cyclists for their remarkable performances and urged them to stay focused on their goals. He stressed the importance of balancing sports with education to build a well-rounded future.
The cyclists and coach expressed their gratitude to the District Police for organising the event and promised to continue their hard work, aiming for even greater success in future national and international competitions.
This achievement serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes in the region, emphasising the role of sports in promoting discipline, teamwork, and personal growth while motivating the next generation to pursue excellence in their chosen fields.
