The Nicobar District Police organised the inaugural session of “Mahila Manch,” an initiative aimed at empowering women in local villages by addressing the challenges and concerns they face.

The community outreach program, held at the Community Hall in Perka Village, Car Nicobar, is designed to foster an environment of support and open dialogue, allowing women to voice their concerns and gain valuable insights into critical issues affecting their lives.

The session was led by Mr. Sunny Gupta, IPS, SP (D) Nicobar, alongside Mr. Solomon Samuel, DANIPS, SDPO Car Nicobar, and Ms. Shabana Haneef, Inspector Coordination at the SP(D)N Office. Together, they engaged with 38 women from Perka and Malaca villages, patiently listening to their concerns and encouraging open discussions.

During the session, Mr. Gupta provided in-depth information on vital topics such as domestic violence, alcohol abuse, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. This educational outreach aims to equip women with the knowledge and tools to recognise and address these issues within their communities, empowering them to take action when necessary.

The successful turnout and productive dialogue at the first session mark an encouraging start for the Mahila Manch initiative. Moving forward, the Nicobar District Police hopes to expand this platform, offering ongoing support and raising awareness on important issues that impact the well-being of women in the district.
