In a heartfelt ceremony, the Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District accompanied by personnel from various units including the Fire Brigade and Police Radio, came together to honour the brave martyrs of the police force on Police Commemoration Day. The event, held in Car Nicobar, served as a solemn tribute to the courageous men and women who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
This year, the nation remembers the sacrifice of 216 police personnel, including Ms. Leela Devi, a former Home Guard with the Andaman and Nicobar Police, who gave her life while serving the community. Superintendent of Police, Sunny Gupta, IPS, delivered a moving speech, underscoring the selfless commitment, courage, and valour exhibited by those in the police service.
During the ceremony, wreaths were laid at the memorial dedicated to the fallen heroes, symbolising the department’s profound respect and gratitude for the ultimate sacrifice made by these individuals. The event was a poignant reminder of the risks police personnel face daily to ensure the safety and security of the nation.
As the ceremony concluded, police jawans bowed their heads in reverence, paying their respects to those whose legacies are etched in history. Their sacrifice remains in the hearts of the force, a guiding light for future generations.
